Site Waste Management Plans have become mandatory since 6th April 2008 for all construction projects with a value over £300,000.
Their aim is to reduce fly-tipping and improve resource efficiency in the construction industry.
They require:
- types and quantities of waste to be estimated before construction starts
- waste to be measured during construction and managed strictly in accordance with the Duty of Care
- waste, if possible, to be re-used, recovered or recycled
and allow for fixed penalties of £300 and fines on summary conviction up to £50,000.
There will be a transition period whereby projects planned before 6th April and started before 1st July will be exempt from the new regulations.
Kotuku can offer a range of training programmes to help you plan, prepare, deliver and manage Site Waste Management Plans. For details please contact Andrew Pears.
