It is widely felt that without a major change in the industry culture sustainable resource management will make little headway in the construction industry.
However there are some activities that are already at the forefront of good environmental practice. All newly installed windows must comply with the insulation criteria of part L of the building regulations. These are designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
One resource stream has always been sustainably managed – lead. The reason is the process allows individuals to benefit – people that save lead have cash put in their pockets.
This innovative educational workshop seeks to do three things:
- To show to people on site that sustainable resource management is not something done by others, but something they often already do.
- To explain and demonstrate the value of many other materials which are usually thrown away.
- To develop, with individual firms, methods to encourage promote and reward sustainable resource management at site level.
